Connecting and reconnecting. Two of the most important (and awesome) parts of being a photographer. Melissa officially wins the award for ‘Client Who Has Known Me the Longest” … besides my mom. Melissa went to school with my mom and was a bridesmaid in my parent’s wedding back in the good ol’ 1980’s. So really, Melissa has known me my entire life. We met at the Indianapolis Museum of Art last weekend so I could do a mini session with her 7 year-old, Ben. Let’s talk about Ben for a second. If I was a boy when I was little, I would have been just like Ben. His favorite subject is Math (I loved math and science), and he loves the Power Rangers. To be honest, I didn’t even know that show was still on, but boy, did I love me some Power Rangers back in the 90’s. My neighbor, Chris, and I would play Power Rangers ALL of the time. Pink Ranger, baby! I had a Power Rangers birthday cake … that was the same year my parents cut my hair into a mullet, which they still claim was the style then … and it wasn’t called a mullet back then, but I digress. So yes, Ben is a great kid. It was so much fun catching up with Melissa and getting to hang out with Ben. Enjoy!

There’s a great terrace on one of the roofs at the IMA. Ben ran up to the doors and was peeking in, so I thought we could have some fun with the windows.

See that front tooth?? It’s not there anymore. Melissa told me he lost it the next day. Love this one.

Ben is a cool little dude … Just look at his shades he was rocking.

When I created my 101 in 1001 list, my main goal was to challenge myself. Even though I knew number 42 would be a challenge … I wanted to see if I could do it. I wanted to see if I could write a new blog post every day for 30 days. I am so thankful that I have had so many wonderful people stop by the blog to check it out. Really, what would it be without everyone who spends time reading what I have to say? So, here it goes. I’m going to blog every day for the next 30 days … Hopefully I’ll have a fun mix of photo sessions as well as some peeks into my life. I have a lot of big things happening this next month, so it’s a perfect time to complete number 42 on my list.

On a related note, a big high-five to my awesome clients who took part in my mini sessions this weekend. The last two days have been so much fun. I met some great, new people and got to catch up with several of my past clients. It was a great excuse to get outside  and get some sun, which I really needed.

Here is a sneak peek of one of my mini sessions. This is baby Cohen (I LOVE his name) … He and his parents will make their big appearance on the blog tomorrow. Until then, enjoy!

This little girl has the biggest, brightest eyes and the happiest of smiles. I’ve been photographing Lilly since she was 6 months old. You might remember her from this session, or this one. Even though she’s grown so much over the last 6 months … that bright smile hasn’t changed.  I got to spend last Saturday with little miss Lilly. We did a 1 year-old session (coming soon) and her cake smash. Lilly surely did not disappoint when it came time to get into the cake. She tore into it like there was a million dollars inside. Enjoy!

I’ve been eager all day to share the rest of Madelyn’s photo session. Not only did I get to spend my afternoon with a happy baby … I also got to spend my afternoon with a happy baby OUTSIDE. For those of you that don’t live in Indiana … This week has been a big week. Yesterday was absolutely beautiful and today was even better. Spring is officially here. Madelyn got to go outside and touch her feet to the grass, which I’m sure she’ll be doing a lot this summer since she is THIS close to walking. Thanks again to Madelyn and her parents for a great session. Look forward to her cake smash session on the blog, tomorrow. Enjoy!

Those eyes! Bluest baby blues I’ve seen!

Favorite of the day! She totally loved being on the table … She kept spinning around and doing a baby break-dance. Yet another reason babies this age are so much fun!

Caught this moment in the mirror. So sweet.

I can remember the excitement when I saw that my mom picked up an extra dozen eggs at the grocery store. My parents would cover the dining room table with newspaper and I’d spend the next hour meticulously planning the colors and patterns of each egg. Oh, the horror when one of the eggs rolled off of its wire spoon and plunged into the blue dye … My eggs were all going to be tie-dyed. I can remember waking up the next morning … I’d walk out of my room and see that blue egg hiding in the plant by the couch. Easter egg hunt? This was the highlight of the day. I would look under the china cabinet, behind the couch, and on top of the mantle. One-by-one I’d load my little basket with the eggs until I had collected the entire dozen. It was only then I was allowed to snoop into my dad’s office to find my Easter basket. The basket was full of candy, plastic eggs and of course the obligatory spring outfit (look through my childhood photos and you’ll see I always had those matching two piece outfits. Thank you 1990’s).

When Laura asked me if I would like to photograph the breakfast she was hosting at the Indiana Heart Hospital, I jumped at the chance. The staff brought their children for breakfast, crafts, an egg hunt and photos with the Easter Bunny. We got some great photos of the event, and of course, some of the children were a little reluctant to sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap. It was adorable, and I’m so glad I was able to be there. Enjoy!

Once the Easter Bunny arrived, the kids were in awe … Most have them hadn’t seen the Easter Bunny before, and their looks were priceless.

Once the Easter egg hunt was over, the kids got to meet the Easter Bunny.

Here are a couple of the kids that weren’t too sure about Mr. Easter Bunny. Even though they were a bit hesitant, they were troopers. These are two of my favorite images from the whole day.

I spent my afternoon with this adorable little girl. I’ll be posting the full session tomorrow, but for now, I just needed to share at least one image. Thank you to Matt & Sarah for inviting me into their home to photograph their big 1-year-old baby girl!

When my husband and I were standing at the altar in 2008, we made a vow to love each other. Always. We threw most of the traditional wedding vows out the window. None of the ‘death do us part’ … instead, just always. As I get older, I can see others in their own love. I know there are many people in my life that have chosen to love. Always.

Meet my grandparents. They are way cooler than me, but that’s okay. I have a few years to catch up with them. I mean, really they are cool. My grandma makes fused-glass jewelry … and they are cool (I wear the necklaces all the time. I’ll be featuring them on my blog soon. I’m still trying to convince her to start a shop on Etsy.com). They are quite the little world travelers, too. They most recently went on a trip to Thailand … which is cool. In fact, I am pretty sure my grandpa has been everywhere on earth (maybe everywhere besides Antarctica, maybe). The coolest thing about them is how much they act like kids when they are around each other. They act like teenagers in love. It’s just fun to be around. I can only hope that when Jimmy and I are grandparents, we are just as in love … and still know how to be cool.

My family came into town for our nephews birthday party last month, so I stole them away for a few minutes for an impromptu photo session. Enjoy!

Check out this storyboard print from Aiden’s Cake Smash Session. I thought it was way too cute to keep to myself.

This is a new photo package I’ve added to my services. The Birthday Baby package is $200. This includes 2 sessions. First, we’ll do a cake smash session approximately 2 weeks before the little one’s birthday party. This includes the giant cupcake as well as the 12×12 storyboard print. The package also includes photos during the birthday party. This ensures you’ll be able to enjoy your baby’s party, and have photos from the day. If you’re only interested in the cake smash, we can do that too for $150, which includes the cake a storyboard. For more information on my packages or to book a session, contact me here.

Since little Mr. Aiden is turning 1 tomorrow, this post is just in time for his big birthday. I first met Chad, Kirsty and Aiden last Fall when I made their family portraits. Aiden was my ‘guinea pig’ for my first Cake Smash Session, and it was a blast. At first he didn’t know what to think about the cake … he started to get into it, and then towards the end, he was a little less than thrilled about being coated in icing…even though we all thought it was hilarious. Happy Birthday Aiden, Cheers to one whole year of being you!!

This is what the first taste of sugar looks like!

Here is where the cake slapping started … I wonder if Kirsty and Chad found icing once I left. I know Kirsty had some in her hair. :)

This was one of my favorite images from the day. Once icing got on his arms/hands/legs, he would pick that part off of the ground and not put it back down.

The destruction

Clean baby!
